What Can a Handyman Do in Florida?

Florida does not require a state contractor licence for general handyman work — things like drywall patching, door and trim repair, cabinet hardware and TV mounting. That exemption never covers electrical, plumbing, HVAC or roofing, which always need their own licensed contractor no matter the job size, and it can't be used by splitting a bigger job into smaller invoices.

The rule

What the handyman exemption covers

Florida’s general handyman exemption covers casual, minor repair and maintenance work — not a blanket permission slip for any trade. Two limits apply regardless of the job:

  • It does not apply if a bigger job is split into smaller contracts to get around it.
  • It does not apply to anyone who advertises or represents themselves as a licensed contractor.
What we do not do, and why

Electrical, plumbing, HVAC and roofing are never on our list — at any job size.

Florida does not require a state contractor licence for general handyman work like ours. Electrical, plumbing, HVAC and roofing are different: they always require their own licensed contractor, no matter how small the job. If a job is electrical or plumbing, we say so and point you to a licensed contractor instead of stretching our scope to keep the work.
